The Team

The muscle and stamina come from the team of five full-time workers who live on the farm with their families. Each is responsible for his own vineyard block of about 4500 vines. Besides tending the vines, Pat is the cellar man; Ryk manages the spray program and, together with Andries, they man the tractors; Jimmy is the farm's alien vegetation expert, this being a serious aspect of farm maintenance; Desmond is at his best when artistically involved, valued for his fine paint work and masonry. In addition, Ingrid is responsible for cellar tastings, stock management, labeling and supervising the small tea garden run by one or two of the wives of the workers.

Vivien and Bruce Harpur contribute their talents of resourcefulness, hands-on energies and wise surveillance with heart-felt commitment and passion. Among Vivien's many talents related to the farm are the nurture of the vines and the organisation of the Herold Conservancy which is a community initiative involving alien vegetation control.

Mark and Vivien have turned their hand to the winemaking, but for the 2008 vintage have employed winemaker David Krynauw to release the full potential of the farm's unique terroir.
